Position: House Manager
Location: New York, NY (primary residence, limited travel to other East Coast properties)
Compensation: $150,000 – $175,000 DOE
Schedule: Monday–Friday, approx. 10:00 AM–7:00 PM with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and events as needed
Reports to: Director of Operations
Our client in Manhattan is seeking a full-time House Manager to oversee the daily operations of a dynamic and fast-paced residence. This role ensures the home is maintained to the highest standard – meticulous, organized, and service-focused – while leading a dedicated team of five housekeepers and a laundress. Key responsibilities include staff management, vendor coordination, scheduling, and ensuring day-to-day operations run smoothly.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and tech-savvy, with proven leadership skills and a strong service mindset. They should bring a hands-on approach, the ability to anticipate needs, and the flexibility to manage multiple priorities seamlessly – both behind the scenes and when interacting directly with the principals.
Key Responsibilities
Household & Operations
- Oversee all aspects of the NYC residence, ensuring systems, schedules, and service standards are consistently maintained.
- Serve as the “quarterback” of the property, directing traffic and coordinating daily staff and vendor movements.
- Manage household inventories, procurement, and expense tracking (Concur and similar systems).
- Oversee property systems including HVAC, security, AV/IT, and smart-home technology; coordinate with IT support.
- Implement and refine household systems and manuals, including cleaning zones, maintenance logs, and SOPs.
- Support hosting and entertaining, from children’s parties to holiday gatherings.
- Travel with the family minimally to their other East Coast properties.
Staff Management
- Lead, schedule, and support a team of housekeepers and a laundress, ensuring coverage across all shifts and peak periods.
- Coordinate with chefs, nannies, drivers, and dog walkers to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Provide ongoing leadership, training, and oversight while maintaining a positive, professional household culture.
- Track staff performance and ensure all roles are carried out to a high standard.
Service & Events
- Uphold exceptional service standards at all times; maintain flexibility to assist during events, entertaining, or family travel.
- Work closely with the principals to anticipate needs and preferences, adjusting details accordingly.
- Ensure seamless guest and family experiences, from casual dinners to formal entertaining.
Administration
- Manage scheduling, budgets, and expense reporting.
- Maintain vendor rosters, oversee contracts, and coordinate maintenance and service visits.
- Provide regular updates to the principals and Director of Operations.
- Ensure accurate documentation of systems, SOPs, and inventories.
Qualifications
- 5+ years’ experience in private service, ideally as a House Manager, former Executive Housekeeper, or Chief Stewardess.
- Strong leadership skills with proven experience managing household staff and operations.
- Tech-savvy; confident with inventory systems, scheduling software, and expense management tools.
- Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and ability to manage a high-volume, fast-paced household.
- Service-oriented mindset with discretion, professionalism, and flexibility.
- Hands-on, proactive, and comfortable with both leadership and support roles.
- Ability to remain calm, polished, and solution-oriented under pressure.
- Legally authorized to work in the US.
- Must be local to NYC.
- Must be willing to undergo a detailed background check and reference check process.
