Overview

Position: Household Manager
Location: San Francisco, CA

 

Private San Francisco-based family seeks a highly organized and resourceful Household Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of their residence(s) and support a range of personal and household-related initiatives. This role is best suited for a candidate who thrives in a structured schedule, communicates clearly and efficiently, and can operate with both independence and discretion in a fast-paced, evolving environment. The ideal candidate is warm, and proactive, with strong organizational instincts and the ability to build trust over time while supporting a busy principal with precision and professionalism.

 

Role Overview

  • Fully onsite, full-time position
  • Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Reliability and consistent punctuality are important
  • Local candidates only

Technology & Organization

  • Strong proficiency within the Apple ecosystem (Pages, Numbers, iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Apple iCal)
  • Highly organized with strong file management practices, including permissions and sharing
  • Technically savvy with experience using iPhone, and apps
  • Resourceful with online research and sourcing

Core Responsibilities

Household & Property Management

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of primary residence
  • Conduct multiple daily walkthroughs using household checklists to identify and resolve action items
  • Maintain and update household manuals, records, and filing systems (contracts, warranties, registrations, etc.)
  • Manage household inventory, including supplies and personal items
  • Maintain approved product lists and sourcing information
  • Oversee all vendor, contractor, and service provider relationships
  • Build and maintain a strong, reliable vendor network (with preference for local businesses)
  • Coordinate and supervise construction, renovation, and household projects
  • Manage purchase orders, approvals, order placement, and delivery tracking
  • Prepare home for events and coordinate seasonal or holiday décor

 Staff & HR Support

  • Assist with hiring and onboarding of vendors
  • Help ensure vendors and contractors have required documentation in place
  • Support scheduling and coordination of household staff

 Administrative & Personal Support

  • Experience managing budgets
  • Coordinate gifting, maintain gift tracking, and manage receipts
  • Liaise with external professionals (e.g., legal, accounting)
  • Assist with personal projects, including archival and research initiatives

Household Support (Hands-On)

  • Light household upkeep (tidying, bed-making, occasional laundry organization)
  • Support a cat-friendly household, including coordination of care (vet, sitters, medications) and litter maintenance

Car & Property Readiness

  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness
  • Ensure vehicle readiness
  • Maintain vehicle checklists and stock comfort items (water, umbrellas, etc.)

 Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience (household management, personal assistant, or similar)
  • Experience managing staff, vendors, and/or contractors
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong emotional intelligence and situational awareness
  • Service-oriented with sound judgment and strong follow-through
  • Able to perform occasional hands-on tasks, including lifting up to 40 lbs
  • Able to successfully pass background, credit, and reference checks
  • Willing to complete pre-employment screenings as required

 

Compensation & Benefits

  • $160,000+ (DOE) – This is a non-exempt position and will be paid accordingly
