Overview

Male Behavioral Nanny | Regulation Specialist

ABA-Informed  |  Austin, Texas  |  Full-Time  |  $60+/hr

Overview

We are seeking an exceptional male caregiver with a background in behavioral therapy, psychology, or mental health to support 8 and 6 year-old boys in a structured, high-functioning household.

This role goes beyond traditional childcare. The ideal candidate will serve as a calm, consistent regulatory presence, helping implement a structured behavioral framework grounded in ABA principles, emotional regulation, and real-time de-escalation strategies.

The candidate will work alongside an existing caregiving team and must be highly aligned, professional, and disciplined in execution.

The Family & Children

The family has two boys:

  • Older child (primary focus): Energetic, curious, and highly engaged in sports—especially basketball. He thrives with structured routines, consistency, and caregivers who are calm, present, and follow through on expectations.
  • Younger child: Warm and easy-going, requiring attentive, engaged caregiving and a consistent daily presence.

Core Responsibilities

Behavioral Regulation & Support

  • Implement structured behavioral regulation strategies in real time, identifying early escalation triggers and intervening proactively
  • Use low-stimulation, low-verbal de-escalation techniques while maintaining a calm, neutral presence during dysregulation
  • Support post-episode recovery through reassurance and co-regulation, not discipline

ABA-Informed Implementation

  • Apply ABA principles including antecedent identification, reinforcement strategies, and behavior interruption and redirection
  • Work within an established behavioral system rather than improvising independent methods
  • Collaborate with parents and professionals to refine strategies over time

Safety Leadership

  • Provide a calm, grounding presence during escalations and execute structured separation protocols when needed
  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of both children at all times
  • Maintain proactive awareness of environmental risks

Relationship & Engagement

  • Build trust through consistency, predictability, and emotional safety—avoiding authoritarian or fear-based approaches
  • Lead sports, outdoor play, and movement-based engagement; basketball experience is strongly valued
  • Provide daily 1:1 connection and structured engagement time with each child

Household Collaboration

  • Work closely with parents and the caregiving team, maintaining consistency in language, tone, and behavioral approach
  • Participate in regular alignment discussions and support smooth transitions and daily routines

Qualifications

Required

  • Male candidates strongly preferred
  • Background in ABA, psychology, behavioral therapy, or mental health support
  • Minimum 5 years supporting children with behavioral or emotional needs
  • Minimum 2 years in a nanny or professional childcare role
  • Experience with emotional dysregulation and behavioral escalation in children
  • Athletic and comfortable leading sports and outdoor physical activity
  • Clean driving record and ability to transport children; must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Willingness to travel with the family, undergo background checks, and provide strong references

Preferred

  • RBT certification or active BCBA-track experience
  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Experience in home-based behavioral support or high-expectation household environments
  • Strong personal interest in sports and physical activity

Ideal Candidate Profile

The right person for this role is emotionally grounded, highly observant, and disciplined in their approach. They lead with warmth rather than authority, remain non-reactive under pressure, and bring a strong physical presence without intimidation. They are coachable, consistent, and genuinely invested in the long-term progress of the children they support. What will not work in this role: reactive or escalatory responses, punitive behavior management, inconsistency, improvisation outside agreed systems, or high-verbal intervention styles.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Full-time, 40–50 hours per week with 40 hours guaranteed
  • Weekday schedule with occasional weekends; travel required including summers and family trips
  • Starting at $60+ per hour, commensurate with experience, plus a full benefits package
  • Relocation support available for the right candidate

How to Apply

Please submit a resume, a brief summary of relevant behavioral or therapeutic experience, copies of any applicable certifications (ABA, RBT, CPR/First Aid), and a short note describing your approach to de-escalating a child in distress.
