Executive Housekeeper
Private Estate • Portola Valley, California
THE ROLE AT A GLANCE
Location Portola Valley, CA (two homes on the property)
Schedule Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00/9:00 a.m. – 4:00/5:00 p.m.
Start Date As soon as possible
Compensation $55–$65 per hour, depending on experience

ABOUT THE POSITION
A private family in Portola Valley is looking for a seasoned Executive Housekeeper to care for two homes. The primary residence is occupied by the principals, and a second home is used regularly by adult children and visiting guests. Both homes feature luxury finishes, fine furnishings, and delicate surfaces that require an experienced and discerning hand.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who genuinely takes pride in their craft. The right person enjoys keeping a beautiful home running quietly in the background, anticipates what is needed before being asked, and treats every room with the same level of care whether or not anyone is home to notice.
DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES
Cleaning & Home Care
- Daily cleaning of both residences, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and surface care
- Deep cleaning on a rotating schedule (baseboards, vents, light fixtures, inside cabinets, behind appliances, etc.)
- Hand-care of fine surfaces: marble, stone, hardwood, antiques, art, mirrors, glass, and high-end fixtures
- Bed linens, bath linens, and bedroom turndown as needed
- Refrigerator and pantry cleaning, organization, and inventory
- Kitchen reset after meals; loading and emptying dishwashers; hand-washing china, crystal, and cookware
- Trash, recycling, and compost management
- Light window cleaning and spot cleaning of upholstery
- Preparing guest rooms ahead of arrivals and resetting after departures
- Reporting any maintenance issues, breakage, or wear before they become larger problems
Laundry & Wardrobe Care
- Family laundry, including washing, drying, ironing, steaming, and proper folding
- Sorting items for dry cleaning and managing pickup and drop-off
- Closet organization and seasonal wardrobe rotation
Pet Care
- Daily care of two dogs and one cat: feeding, fresh water, and tidying pet areas
- Coordinating and accompanying pets to veterinary appointments
- Purchasing food, treats, medications, and supplies
- Communicating with the family on anything pet-related that needs attention
Errands & Household Support
- Grocery shopping and household errands
- Amazon ordering and managing returns
- Receiving and putting away deliveries
- Home organization projects (closets, pantries, garages, storage rooms)
- Light support for family events and gatherings as requested
- Coordinating with vendors and other household staff when on-site
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- A minimum of five years of experience caring for large private homes with luxury, fine, and delicate surfaces
- Deep knowledge of proper cleaning methods and products for high-end materials
- A natural eye for detail and a high standard for how a home should look, feel, and smell
- Comfortable working independently, managing your own time, and seeing what needs to be done without being told
- Calm, discreet, and respectful of the family's privacy at all times
- Reliable, punctual, and consistent — the family is counting on you to be there
- Genuine love of animals and experience caring for household pets
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
- Comfortable using a smartphone, email, and basic apps for shopping, scheduling, and communication
- Valid driver's license, reliable personal vehicle, and a clean driving record
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This role is physically active and requires the stamina to be on your feet most of the day. Candidates should be able to:
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach overhead, and climb stairs throughout an eight-hour shift
- Lift and carry up to 30 pounds (laundry baskets, vacuum equipment, deliveries, pet supplies)
- Use ladders and step stools safely to access high surfaces and shelving
- Push, pull, and maneuver vacuums, carts, and cleaning equipment across two residences
- Work with cleaning products and around household pets without restriction
CONFIDENTIALITY, REFERENCES, AND VETTING
- A signed Non-Disclosure Agreement is required as a condition of employment
- Stellar, verifiable references from prior private service roles are required — please come prepared with current contact information
- Finalists will undergo an in-depth background investigation, including criminal, civil, motor vehicle, employment verification, and identity checks
- This is a smoke-free and vape-free household and workplace; no smoking or vaping on the property or during work hours
