HOUSEMAN

Location: Woodside, CA

Schedule: Generally Monday - Friday, 9am to 5pm, occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required. 

Compensation: $45-$50 per hour, plus an excellent benefits package

POSITION SUMMARY

A wonderful returning client, this private residence offers a warm, well-run environment and exceptional care for staff. This is an outstanding opportunity for a professional who takes genuine pride in their work and thrives in a well-staffed, collaborative home.

The Houseman is responsible for servicing and maintaining the interior and exterior of all buildings following established SOPs, and is expected to creatively solve problems and continually improve all aspects of service to the Principals and their guests. The property includes multiple residential buildings located in a woodland environment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide care for museum-quality furnishings and other household items.
  • Remove leaves from gutters as needed.
  • Clean stone landing at all entrances to buildings.
  • Clean and maintain an orderly appearance in basement prep kitchen.
  • Clean kitchen daily.
  • Clean the art and pottery studios daily.
  • Clean and maintain wine dining and storage rooms.
  • Assist with events as needed.
  • Keep outside furniture, patios, and walkways clean.
  • Sweep and wash pool deck.
  • Clean pool, spa, and cold plunge covers as needed.
  • Clean and set up the outdoor pizza oven as needed, ensuring it is stocked with wood and fatwood (fire starter).
  • May be asked to assist with daily care of farm animals, including feeding and cleaning pens.
  • Wash family vehicles as needed.
  • Take garbage, recycling, and green bins out to the curb.
  • Pick up trash when walking throughout the property.
  • Keep car charging cables neat and tidy.
  • Assist House Manager and Maintenance team as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least five years of experience working in a fine home.
  • Sound knowledge of proper cleaning methods, techniques, and appropriate use of cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Works in a manner that is careful and thoughtful, with an eye toward reducing the likelihood of damaging, chipping, or breaking any furnishing, building, or other item.
  • Aware of proper protocol and etiquette in a private home.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to work well as part of a household team.
  • Able to multi-task effectively, set priorities, and work well under pressure when needed.
  • Long-term intent.
  • Able to perform the job's essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Authorized to work legally in the United States.
  • Possesses a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record; can be insured at no material increment in cost.
  • Sensitive to the Principals' requests for privacy, confidentiality, flexibility, and a quiet atmosphere throughout the workday.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays according to the needs of the household.
  • Willing to attend all work-related training and programs, such as First Aid/CPR, work safety, fire safety, and emergency/disaster protocols.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to perform full-time, active physical work throughout the residence and grounds.
  • Capable of reaching, bending, stooping, lifting, carrying, and moving typical household items, including furniture.
  • Comfortable using stairways, household ladders, and step stools.
  • Able to operate household laundry equipment, cleaning equipment, and kitchen appliances.
  • Basic computer and phone skills for communication and recordkeeping.
  • Able to provide limited on-call availability during non-business hours as needed.
  • Able to travel without personal assistance.
  • Must be willing to undergo an intensive background investigation.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Reports to the House Manager.
  • Schedule may vary according to household needs established by the Principals and Estate Manager.
  • Weekend or holiday duties may be required on occasion.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Hourly Rate: $45-$50 per hour (DOE)
  • Medical, Dental & Vision: Full coverage for employee and all dependents
  • 401(k): With 6% employer match
  • Vacation: 10 paid vacation days
  • Sick Leave: 5 paid sick days
  • Bonus: Discretionary
