A private family in Atherton, California, is hiring a part-time Family Assistant to support their home and household starting in January 2027. The role follows a rotating schedule. Some weeks focus on being a responsible adult in the home during the after-school hours, and other weeks focus on household projects, errands, and keeping the home organized and ready. You’ll work closely with a longtime member of the family’s team, who will be your main point of contact.

The children are older and very independent, so this isn’t a nanny role. The family is looking for a calm, trustworthy adult who is a friendly presence in the home and can handle anything unexpected with good judgment. The right person is down to earth, relaxed, and quiet, with strong self-awareness and a respect for the family’s privacy. This is a long-term role with an appreciative family, and doing well means the home is always ready and the family never has to think twice about what’s being handled.

Schedule

• 20 guaranteed hours per week, long-term
• Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, kid-oriented hours are 4:30pm-7:30pm (sometimes an earlier start time will be requested)
• Remaining hours to be scheduled around household needs

Responsibilities

• Be present at the home during after-school hours as the responsible adult on site
• Offer a friendly, low-key presence and respond calmly to any unexpected situations
• Help set up and maintain the home, including organizing and refreshing living spaces
• Run errands and manage household shopping and supplies
• Coordinate with vendors and service providers, and be on site for appointments as needed
• Keep the home tidy, organized, and stocked
• Flag maintenance needs as they come up
• Prepare simple meals or snacks as needed (a plus, not required)
• Communicate regularly with the family’s team on priorities and updates

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as a Family Assistant, Household Assistant, or in a similar role in a private home
• Calm, dependable, and sound in judgment
• Organized and self-directed, with the ability to work independently
• Discreet and respectful of the family’s privacy; willing to sign a confidentiality agreement
• Comfortable around dogs (no pet care required)
• Basic cooking skills a plus
• Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable vehicle
• Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred
• Legally authorized to work in the US
• Within a commutable distance to Atherton, CA
• Willing to complete a background check and provide excellent references

Compensation

• $50 to $55 per hour, depending on experience
• Paid sick days, paid holidays (certain holidays to be shared with qualified candidates) + access to a retirement plan
